FAQ for Online Course

 

How long does it take to do an online course?

You may move through your online course as quickly or as slowly as you wish. The real measure of progress in the course is the completion of the assignments, the unit tests and of course, the final exam. You can login to your course and work away at any time and at any pace. Because all students are starting at different times, you do NOT have to move through the course synchronously with other students.

How many hours it take to finish an online course?

In the course outline, we indicate that the course will take 110 hours and then show you the breakdown for the units. Please bear in mind, that these would be the hours allocated if you were to be seated in a classroom. For online course, we do not track your hours but rather, your performance.

What is the difference between classroom courses and online courses in Toronto College High School?

We maintain the same standard for both classroom and online courses. But the online courses are specially designed for Convenience. The following are a few of the benefits of choosing an online course.

Convenience- There's no commute to classes, no need to rearrange your schedule. Study where and when you choose.
Low Cost - You can save 1) Tuition: Our classroom course tuition is $680 and online course is $500 for each credit course. 2) No books cost. All books, assignments, tests and exams are electronic version. 3) No transportation cost. You can study at home.

Do I need to finish all assignments before I take the final exam?

Yes. Students assume the responsibility to ensure that they have completed all of the requirements of the course.
If all of the assignments of a course are not complete, then the student may receive an "incomplete" for the course.

What is the format of assignments?

Assignments may be varied to include such assignments as essays, term papers, experiments, projects, participation in conference discussions, etc.

How can I be reported as present in an online class?

You must do at least one of the following:
attend a scheduled class chat
participate in the threaded discussion area
send the teacher an e-mail
submit a completed assignment
If you will be away or unable to login for up to seven consecutive days, you must receive approval from the principal at least three days before a planned absence.

What is a proctored final exam?

A proctored exam is one that is overseen by an impartial individual, the proctor, who supervises you while you take the final exam. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process.

Who should be a proctor?

The proctor is someone who oversees an exam. Suitable proctors would be teachers, librarians, registered nurses, ministers, chartered accountants, engineers, etc. Unsuitable proctors would be parents, friends or tutors.

Do Unit tests have to be proctored?

No. The unit tests require the honour system on behalf of the student.
Students must complete all of the assigned unit tests which are to be taken within a specific range of time in the online environment. The tests are timed and must be completed within the time allotted.

How can I know which course is online course and which course is classroom course?

You can identify by the icons coming after the course name.

Will I get a diploma through online study?

Yes, you will get a high school diploma that is fully recognized upon graduation if you meet the requirements.

How do I enroll courses?

1. Select the course you want to study, check the box with the start schedule and then "Add to Your Course List" Button.
2. Click"Register-Prospective Student" button if you are a new student and then figure out and submit the registration form.
3. Click "Register-Current Student" if you are an existing student and fill out your student id and password and submit.
4. Pay your course fee online by click "pay here" button .
5. If you are a prospective student, you will get your student ID and password by email and then you can login to start the course.
6. If you are a current student, you will get a notification to inform you for your new course registration status.

What happens to the credit earned when we take an online course?

We will inform your school when you begin the course. When you reach the midpoint, we will send you and your home school a copy of the midterm report card. When you finish, we will send you a final report card and the Ontario Student Transcript. We will also send to your home school an official copy of the final report card and the OST. The credit will then be added to your list of credits at your home school.

Can students retake a course in order to improve their grade?

Yes. Most universities will simply use the higher of the two marks to calculate your overall average.

If I am registered as a full-time or part-time student at another high school, can I still take an online OSSD credit course with TCHS?

Yes, you can still take a credit course online. When you are finished the course with us, we will send the OSSD credit you earn to your high school and this credit will be added to your transcript. All OSSD credits taken online are viewed the same as day school credits.

If I am attending school in another province or in another country, can I still take an online OSSD credit course with TCHS?

Yes. When you are finished the course with us, we will send the OSSD credit you earn back to your high school and they will add the credit to your transcript.

How will OUAC/OCAS or the University know that I am taking an online course with TCHS?

We will forward your midterm and final marks to OUAC/OCAS and/or the University based on your request.

Do Universities view courses taken Online differently from those taken in class?

Universities will view online course marks the same as a regular in class mark. However, Universities will likely view you as being a more self-motivated, goal-orientated, and independent learner from the online courses you take.
